The Bizarre Bazaar!

The release is live!

This week, the Hero returns to Grandiflora and the Branden Quarter!

After finding the compass of one's of Grandiflora's soldiers, Lansezeur, you've finally begun to follow the trail. Problem is, it stops cold right there: there's nothing that might point the way forwards and it seems like another dead end otherwise...

But Grandiflora's memory has been jogged by the finding of Lansezeur's compass. According to him, there was something: An open market they ran by while falling back and Lansezeur had been the one to spot it. A slightly eerie and disconcerning place, full of empty stalls and rotten food.

It seems odd. It would seem a bit much of a coincidence for the compass to be a clue to seeking the bazaar of the paupers of Branden. Odd as it may be however, it is your only trail to follow at the moment. Find the Bizarre Bazaar of the Branden Quarter and hope for the best, Hero.

And that's about the extent of my pirate speak...

Celebrate Talk like a Pirate Day this week by heading over to any sea encounter in the Pale Sea and the Pasgur Ocean and try your luck finding the Navigator's Hat arrrtifact!

It has a low drop chance, but when equipped, it gives you a new, spiffy attire for your pirate class!

However, if you don't want to look for the booty, you can always buy the arrrtifact from your Book of Lore! It'll be available until 28th of September, so grab it while it's hot, because after the shop is gone, the arrrtifact is going to only be available via the encounters!

Not only that, but the 20% extra gold and experience points from battles event is still going on until next Friday!

Hey there, heroes!

Verlyrus here with some news on the Epoch class. Epoch progress is progessing! We're doing a lot of really cool, complicated, mechanics for this class that are a ton of fun to strategize and play with- unfortunately, this also means that it's taking a little bit longer to create and test. But it's still being worked on, and it should be ready for testing soon!

Also, a few general balance changes:

  • Guardian and Evolved Pumpkin Lord one-shot skills no longer work if the enemy has more than half of your HP. Instead, they will do a large amount of damage. To compensate for this, the activation chance on those skills has been increased to 10% up from 1%.
  • Damage Boost less than -100 no longer causes attacks to heal the target. Instead, damage is limited to a minimum of 0.

We hope you'll enjoy this week's release!

Creepy Crawlies

Good Friday everyone!

Tomix and Verly have been working on some other projects over the past few days. Some progress has been done on Epoch’s animations!

This week, you’ll be going back to Grandiflora to give him another hand looking for his missing soldiers. You haven’t had any luck on the northern side of the Branden Quarter so now you will try by the south. Be careful though! Lots of icky, creeper crawlies are to be had so thread carefully and make sure not to get swarmed by the many-legged while on your search. Good luck and don’t forget to take some down time after your excursion! Grandiflora doesn’t mind having a little chat.

Cheers and happy questing

Hey there, Heroes!

Verlyrus here- This week, I've been spending time tracking down bugs and preparing DragonFable for the Artix Games Launcher! The Artix Games Launcher is a project that I am personally very excited for- it will allow you to play DragonFable and other AE games without using a web browser!

Read more about it and download the Alpha Test (May be buggy!) here.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed: Weakness seeking now properly ignores non-damage resistances

  • Weakness seekign skills used to target Health and Immobility resistances. My quick fix unfortunately made it so that if an enemy had All resistance > lowest resistance, listed after their lowest resistance, it would target the All resistance and do untyped damage. This has been fixed. All resistance is no longer considered in weakness seeking.

Fixed: Dragon Mage's Dragon Fire now counts toward Dragon's Tempest.

Fixed: Ruby now only sells her food to heroes with Dragon Amulets.

  • Ruby's food was only usable by DragonLords. However, other than Hardtack and Seaweed, it was still purchasable by all players. As the food is only usable by DragonLords, all of Ruby's food can now only be bought if you have a Dragon Amulet.

Fixed: Improved Character Loading

  • For a while now, there has been an issue with some of the loading when loading a character in the game. Sometimes, players may have encountered a greyed out screen that prevented them from interacting with anything. This has been resolved, and should no longer appear.

Fixed: Decadere Eldest no longer has NaN resistance

Fixed: Skull Crusher Blaster now does proper damage and has had bugged non-applying effects removed.

Fixed: The DragonFable Friends trinket has had its damage reduced by 66%. It was simply way too powerful, and if left alone, would have skewed balance very poorly toward it being a rare item.

Fixed: Manaphages have had their damage reduced significantly.

Known issues:

Character pages are currently not functioning correctly. Saved Dragon and Player colors are not loading properly. The cause and fix are known, but may take some time to be resolved. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

Dragon Mage projectiles stick on close enemies. This bug is very odd, and I am still not entirely sure of the cause, or a fix for it. I am still working on this, though.

There's only one week left to pick up an Anniversary Scythe, and to also purchase Dragon Coins and recieve 50% more free! Get them while you can!

Frostval 2017 Finale!

Happy Frostval everyone!

This last week before the holidays seems to always be a rush one way or another. I look around and everywhere I see people frantically going about: final desperate preparations for final exams, tripidating plannings for trips for the holidays, anticipation for friend and family gatherings left, right, up, down and everywhere in between.

Speaking of family gatherings, have you ever had that one family member who is always in the worst of moods while everyone is trying to have a good time? If you have, Moroz might feel a bit familiar. One would think that after all the effort the Hero and co. have gone through to accommodate him he could warm up a bit… Is it the fact that they are all strangers? Possibly… The fact you showed up uninvited? Maybe but still… Is there something else that that's riling Moroz? Doesn't seem so. He really seems unnecessarily sour. Sour as an unripened moglinberry.

All in all perhaps he is just a lumberjack through and through: as sharp as the blade of his axe and as stiff as the bark of the trees he cuts down all at the same time.

For those full of impatience and expectations for a white Falconreach, Snowy Falconreach will come in January as Verly and Tomix get a bit of rest for the epic job they have done on releases this year!

I’m dreeeaming of a white Frostvaaal…

Have fun and enjoy the holidays!

Hey guys, Tomix here.

Unfortunatelly I was not able to finish up snowy Falconreach this week... so it'll be coming out at a later date, very soon!

The Branden Quarter!

It’s Friday and the release is live!

Head on over to Book 3 Swordhaven by the Library to pick up the quest from a member of The Rose in need of your aid! It’s up to you whether you want to help them or not... but know that they sure could use a hand. Trouble is brewing in parts of Swordhaven that are the most left behind and The Rose’s military cannot sit on its laurels.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Engine update from Verlyrus:

  • A new Dragon Amulet only page has been added to the Book of Lore that will allow you to invite guests outside of quests.
    • There are two spots left on the guest page! Let us know on the forums who you'd like to see summonable from the Book of Lore! Aegis? Mritha? Let us know!
  • Guests now recieve healing from all sources outside of battle.

New side quest line!

Hello there!

This week Tomix is working hard again to bring the ShadowWalker of Time class ever closer to fruition. Given that, I am bringing you a new quest for you to take a swing, a stab or a mage bolt at coming this Friday. It will not be part of the Atgasedd series (The last quest for that is still in the works. I want to take the time necessary on this as it is a lengthier quest). This Friday will actually be the start next mini-series—like the Atgasedd series was—that takes place in Swordhaven, but elsewhere.

As often, someone in Swordhaven needs your assistance and as the more or less trumpeted Hero of people across the Kingdom of Greenguard, you have a certain duty to oblige. But is it always a good idea to provide that help however? Can you necessarily trust whoever is requesting your assistance? Can you trust people… with certain allegiances? Well, there is only one way to find out.

Hunt for Bradychwyd

This week the Doom Dragon Scythe shop is returning for Dragonfable's 11th Anniversary! You can get the Doomed Dragon Scythe of Elementals for the full price of 5,000 DCs or the Doomed Dragon Amulet Scythe of Elementals 500 if you have a Dragon Amulet. The shops will be here for a little while before they're gone until the next anniversary comes around.

Otherwise, there's a small quest this week! There's a new request for help at the Swordhaven Quest Board! A dragonlord and his dragon who's got a reeeeally bad case of Laryngitis are stranded just South-West of Swordhaven and need a brave volunteer (aka not the dragonlord) to administer the medicine witho—

Wait. Hold on.

The request is gone. Maybe someone took care of it already? Well! Things sure move fast in Swordhaven! I guess there's nothing to do after a—

Wait... There's a new request up actually. Things really do go fast! Let's see…

It’s a bit of strange request... Not sure what this guy is after.

Well, you’re better at this than me. Think you can do it?

I also have some preview of the next week's release for you!

It will be a challenge arena, that will be updated frequently with new ferocious monsters and incredible loot!

The first week of challenges will involve... DRAGONS!!!

Who will be giving you the challenges?

YOU, of course!

The other versions of you from other timelines of the multiverse!

Happy weekend,

Gorillaphant Warfare!

Happy Father’s Day!

Since that’s Sunday… you better not forget! To celebrate Father’s Day this year, the Father’s Day shop is back in up and running in the Book of Lore. Get your Father’s Day weapons while they’re here! They'll be gone for another year in a few weeks.

This week, you’ll return where the Hero and Sir Leon were left off in the most recent Shears quest, confronted by a previous Rose acquaintance! You might have fought them before, but don’t expect things to be easy! Gorillaphant Warfare is never pretty!

Head over to the Shears in Book 3, and if you are up-to-date with the quest line, speak to Leon!

Also, as part of our 11th Anniversary event, from now through June 30th, every character that logs in will receive 500 free Dragon Coins!

We have also updated next batch of classes with the new heads!

These are:

  • Pyromancer
  • SoulWeaver and Master SoulWeaver
  • Archivist
  • TimeKiller
  • ChronoZ

Next week, batch number 3!
Also, a word from Elryn:
Greetings and good Friday everyone
Since the end of the first part of the Dragon rider War, Dracelix and I have been wanting to do more regarding The Shears and the Storyline of Sir Leon and his friends in arms. Sanctuary’s Return is part of a new chain where we will have the chance to do just that. The chain will likely start slowly and pick up further along as the series of quests progress. There will be potential to uncover curious stories for some of the NPCs Dracelix has had for a while and perhaps more yet.
For now though, you should focus on getting out scot-free of the Rose Research facility you just casually stormed, whose Rose masters you have disturbed and unexpected prisoner found. A battle of gorillaphant tactics awaits you.
Cheers and happy weekend!

Hunt for Atgno

Greetings everyone
It has been a pretty strange and rather unpleasant week.

Firstly, Verlyrus had a rough couple of weeks. Tomix, on the other hand came down with a mysterious plague...

We are not quite sure what happened exactly, other than that it started late last week, then he was out commission for several days after the release. He is just coming out of it. Well wishes to both of them!

Tomix is still working on plots and ideas for the Gala at King Alteon’s court and I wrote a small quest for you to play in the me-

Did anyone just hear an odd, cackling laughter just now, or was it me?

*Elryn looks left and right suspiciously*

I could have sworn there was a shape just around the Swordhaven Quest Board as well...

This is most definitely a strange week indeed.

Thankstaking 2016 Finale!

Happy Thankstaking!

I have written past Thankstakings, so the holiday wasn’t something new to me. What WAS new was working with Elryn. He has a keen intellect, and is a pleasure to write with. He has some clever ideas, and, admittedly, some really strange ones. I suppose we’re both guilty of that. Working with Elryn on this holiday was fun though. We had a lot of laughs, and some of the funny ideas we came up with you may well never see.  I honestly look forward to working with him on other things. He’s been a great sounding board for some of my ideas, and it was input from him that helped me make some of my other recent work what it was.

Now, I’d like to take a moment to mention family gatherings. It doesn’t matter what size the family is, there are ALWAYS those who will somehow disrupt the proceedings. This is just the natural state of things. As I worked on the character of Joules, I was somewhat thinking of my experiences with both of my sisters as it applies to the holidays. So I suppose Joules is carrying a bit of them within her. This week, Joules has a surprise waiting for you. It wouldn’t be polite to disappoint her, now would it?

Have a Happy Thankstaking… and for those who celebrate, Happy Thanksgiving. Have a great time, and make sure to try a bit of everything. You never know… you might be surprised.
Happy holidays!

Eric Greydawn.

Hello everyone!

The last quest of this year’s Thankstaking is upon us and… at least, hopefully... the grand Thankstaking feast the Hero and his curious bunch of friends are eagerly waiting to chow down for…. If you can best what Joules has in store for you that is. Writing and collaborating with Eric on this year’s Thankstaking has been quite fun: we had strange and whacky ideas that came to life in odd and, perhaps predictably, strange ways; all in good fun and in the Dragonfable spirit of things.

Beyond just Thankstaking however, there is something that must be said about co-writing with Eric: it has been a blast and a valuable experience of writing since it started. Both Eric and I were in peculiar situations when he returned earlier this year. Eric still had his own troubles that had prevented him from working on the True Mortal Saga despite his best efforts and I had taken a 13 hours car trip to take another temporary full-time job. While both of our Terran analogs had desired to do more, I started lending my hand to Eric on a few things.

I suppose it is something that came with the writer territory. Eric told me what he knew about Celtic, Viking and other mythos and lore and I returned with my own. Our knowledge as respective lore buffs quickly inspired Laguzoki and before long, Icy Beginnings was created. Through helping work with his own creations, Eric has been tremendously helpful in inspiring my own writing. I certainly look forwards to creating more with him.

Have fun, eat your fill this Thankstaking!

What's that Whistling Noise?

Part 2 of this year's Thankstaking is live! Head over to the Thankstaking book and continue the storyline.

Eric and Elryn have a few (few? more like a wall of text, am I right?!) words for you:

Hi everyone!

In this next part of our celebration, we’ve had a bit of fun. The holiday season is all about having fun. Light-hearted stories are a long-standing holiday tradition with DF, and I remember fondly my first time playing around with Thankstaking and Frostval. I was only able to play a limited time each week due to work constraints, but the light-hearted nature of the holiday quests meant that the time I spent playing our beloved DragonFable was all that much more meaningful.

I’m really excited to continue to be part of the holiday traditions of DragonFable as we’re moving forward. It’s been fun to explore new characters and new scenarios as DragonFable has continued to evolve! Here’s to hoping we get to spend many more holiday seasons together, as friends and compatriots.

Eric Greydawn.

The Anatomy of Barrel

The work of a Moglin Cooper is no job to simply barrel right through. It takes a good amount of precision in putting a juice barrel together correctly especially given that juice barrels are made without a drop of glue. They are required to be airtight and leak proof which is important for all juice barrels. Some types of woods cannot be used as the wood is too porous and a good few juices would simply leak through the pores of the wood. Lastly, the type of wood used can have various effects on the taste and quality of the juice in the barrel and so the making of juice barrels takes the combination of the right wood, the right precision and the right knowhow and experience in putting one together.

Making one usually starts with making the "staves" which are long, plank-like pieces of seasoned (aged) wood that make the frame of the barrel. Oak is often used because the chemicals oak wood releases usually improves the taste of the juice it contains.

The width of each individual stave varies, but everyone of them will be wider at the middle and narrower at the ends. This is what gives a barrel its trademark, curved frame that is larger at the middle and smaller and the tops.

Once the staves are on hand, the Moglin Cooper places them around within the coil a metal ring. The staves are kept together by the sheer pressure of the staves lined up neatly in a row one after another and restrained by the ring. To reinforce and keep it that way, the Moglin Cooper adds one or more heavy iron bands over and under the metal ring. At this point, the barrel’s curved shape appears… well, half of it. The other end is still a bunch of staves that spread out like the petals of an opening flower.

In order to bend the other end of the unfinished barrel, the staves need to go through a combination of heating, steaming or soaking in order to be made flexible enough or the staves will break rather than bend into shape. At this stage, a fire is lit either under or in the barrel to heat and singe the inside. Singeing the inside of the barrel has a determinant impact on the flavour of the juice so a Moglin Cooper must be careful in how much singeing is done.

Now comes the tricky part. Once the frame of the barrel has been made flexible, the Moglin Cooper must supervise a pack of Moglins that will bring the other end of the barrel tight enough to place bands upon it. To do so, the Moglins gather around in a circle and with the strength of their collective hugs, hug the frame of the barrel on the end into the desired shape. This process infuses some Moglin hug magic into the barrel which in turn will give the juice its potency.

The Moglin Cooper replaces the heavy iron bands by sturdier and lighter metal or wood ones. At this point, three steps remain to complete the juice barrel. First, the cooper carves grooves and neatly fits the circular wooden covers of the top and bottom of the barrel. Next, he sands down the exterior of the barrel into a polished finish. Finally, he drills a bung hole and plugs it to allow the barrel to be filled and emptied with juice at will.

And there! Now you have a complete barrel of juice, ready to be filled and stocked with juice for years to come.

The Great Moglinberry Caper!

Thankstaking 2016 is upon us!

Here are some words from the writers of this year's storyline.

Once again the holiday season is upon us, and I have the great pleasure of revisiting this holiday. The thing about food is that it is what draws people together.

Families gathered around the table, eating, talking, and enjoying the festivities. Families and friends enjoy the feasts, and food, in all its various forms, is the centerpiece of the gathering. Different cultures mean different kinds of food, but the heart of it will always be that wonderful feeling of belonging that comes with a joyful gathering and feast among family and friends—those nearest and dearest to our hearts.

Like most family gatherings though, there is always SOMEONE who is dissatisfied with the way things are going and ends up making waves. At DragonFable, we have a family who seems uniquely dissatisfied with Thankstaking, and the members of that family tend to disrupt things. Fortunately, our worst offender, Dr. Voltabolt, has sworn not to interfere. He promises to behave himself and be helpful in a productive way. Nothing can go wrong. Right? Right? Ah well, it wouldn’t be DragonFable if things went off without a hitch. Enjoy!

Eric Greydawn

The Life of a Moglinberry Juice barrel

It can be a rather fascinating subject you know. Moglinberries are an important part of the life and diet of the people of the Kingdom of Greenguard. The berries can be used to make high, long lasting protein mix that keeps and stores calories well for prolonged periods of times through drought and winter conditions. The leaves make good tea, but most famously the berries can be used to make a juice high in anti-oxidants, which is an all around good thing for you. Thus, Moglinberry juice barrels are vital element of Lorian biodiversity. They sustain entire ecosystems (N.B.: not me)!

Even after the barrel has been emptied, it serves as the home of several life forms known to Lore. Which life forms you may ask (since again, not me)? To find that out, you will have to play the first installment of the 11th chapter of Thankstaking this week.

Have a barrel and Happy Thankstaking!

Espina Update!

A note from Elryn:

Greetings everyone!

I would like to let you know that the end of Espina Rosa will not come this week and that instead it will be due for another week (not next week). I know we said in the last DNs we were going to do it this week however between Tomix not feeling too well and my mild burnout from my Terran analog’s new job, we decided best to postpone it to the next available date. There will be a light release this week instead (make sure to wish Tomix well!).

In the mean time, I will make sure to brush up on the script as much as possible. After all, you will not be able to leave Espina Rosa without facing the final boss of the Fortress.

When that comes, I hope you are ready for a difficult battle, Hero.

San Robin has a short quest for us for Friday and the Espina Rosa finale will be coming in a couple weeks!
