The Pale Sea

Ahoy, Heroes!

This week in DragonFable, the Pale Sea calls. Helm's Harbor, southwest of Swordhaven, is now open, and an old friend is ready and waiting to take you across the waves.

Beware the many dangers of the sea, find places to drop anchor and discover treasure!

To move your ship, click on any square adjacent to your ship token on the sailing map. You can drop anchor at any ports marked on the map, and you may discover unmarked locations to drop anchor and explore as well.


If you're caught up in the story, continue it by sailing across the Pale Sea to Pelekoa on the island of Maar. A pit stop on the way to the enigmatic Land of Fables!

If you're still behind in the story, you can still sail around and explore the Pale Sea and all it has to offer.

You can access Helm's Harbor either by foot from Bk3 Swordhaven, directly from the Bk3 Travel Map, or by talking to Eukara in Sulen'Eska after completing the prerequisite story quests.

This is only the first leg of your journey west- will you survive? Or will the ocean claim you for its own? What waits beneath the waves? And where will you be heading next?

The Price

Hey there, heroes!

This week, return to the Nest to pick up the pieces after the previous attack.

A word from San Robin about this week's release:

Hello, hey, hi there and greetings!

It has been a while since we’ve last visited The Nest. When we left off the hero had battled a mysterious villain who seems to have targeted the orphanage.
However an attack does leave some damage to surroundings, so today we’ll help clean up the place a little bit and help where possible.
Because we’re good people, and good things happen to good people right? :)*
So what will we be doing? Mopping? Dusting? Or perhaps filling up the giant hole in the wall that was left during the attack?

Also this week: A new visitor has arrived in Book 3 Falconreach. She has some peculiar tastes that she may be willing to share with you.

Make sure to pay Ruby, the moglin Adventure Chef, a visit before you plan on doing anything too dangerous!

Engine Update: 14.2.43

Hey there, Heroes!

Quick Monday update:

Engine Version 14.2.43:

  • DEX now reduces Glancing Blow damage by a little more- DEX/1500 up from DEX/2000.
  • Glancing Blows no longer count as hits for skills or attacks that depend on previous attacks landing.
  • You can no longer kidnap your Ash character as a guest from interacting with Ash in Falconreach.
  • Weakness seeking abilities no longer seek Health, Immobility, Shrink, etc, as damage types.
    • This fix is still a bit of a work in progress.
  • Other misc. fixes.

Also, since we have just finished a pretty major update on stats, a review of what stats do!

  • STR
    • Increases damage done by Melee weapons and skills by Stat Damage: STR/10.
    • Increases Immobility resist by STR/5.
    • Increases Stat Damage done by all damage types by (STR/500)%, multiplicative.
      • For example, if you have 100 STR and 200 DEX and use a Pierce skill, you will do 20 Stat damage from 200 DEX, multiplied by 1.2 from 100 STR, for a total of 24 bonus Pierce damage.
  • DEX
    • Increases damage done by Pierce weapons and skills by Stat Damage: DEX/10.
    • Decreases damage taken from Glancing Blows by (DEX/1500)%, additive.
      • For example, you normally take 25% of incoming damage from a Glancing Blow. if you have 200 DEX, you will take 25% - ~13% of the damage: ~12% damage from the Glancing Blow instead of 25%.
    • Increases damage done by skill DoTs by DEX/10 damage (Not applied to weapon DoT effects, or lifesteal DoT effects).
      • For example, if you have 200 DEX, every single one of your skill DoTs will do 20 more damage per turn.
  • INT
    • Increases damage done by Magic weapons and skills by Stat Damage: INT/10.
    • Increases Bonus to Hit by INT/10.
    • Increases Critical Hit damage by (INT/1000)%, additive.
      • For example, Your crits will do 1.75x damage under normal circumstances. But if you have 200 INT, that same crit will do 1.75x + .2x for a total of 1.95x damage instead.
  • LUK
    • Increases your Melee/Pierce/Magic defenses by LUK/25 points.
    • Increases your Direct Hit chance by LUK/25 points.
      • A Direct Hit bypasses all defenses and avoidance regardless of Bonus.
    • Increases your Critical Hit rate by LUK/10 points.
    • Affects other small things such as rolls in some minigames.
  • CHA
    • Increases Guest and Pet damage by CHA/10.
    • Increases Gold and Exp rewards when using Guests by (CHA/10)% per guest.
      • Guests normally reduce Exp and Gold rewarded by 10% per guest. At 100 CHA, you will break even, and over 100 CHA, you will earn more Exp and Gold!
  • END
    • Increases your Hit Points by END * 5.
      • If you have 200 END, you will get 1000 more hit points!
  • WIS
    • Increases your Mana Points by WIS * 5.
    • Increases incoming healing and mana recovery by (WIS/20)%.
      • For example, if you have a skill that heals 100 HP, and 200 WIS, that skill will heal 110 HP instead.

The Endless Invasion Challenge!

Hey there, Heroes!

In the infinite* sea of possibility floats the infinite* versions of you. Different choices lead down different paths- every slight choice, no matter how small, makes a difference. What about the decisions you make in dreams? What happens to those dream-versions?

Now what would you get if every* single one of those versions got together and were shoved into a bottomless rip in space-time and wanted to get out? Oh and if you were a tog, too?

The Endless* Invasion Challenge!

We took an infinite* number of togs from dreams, time, and space, and piled them down a hole in the Arena at the Edge of Time! Hurray!

This endlessly* scaling dungeon increases its difficulty slowly every level. How deep can you delve? Can you find the bottom?

You will not be doing this for naught, however. Every 5 levels, you will receive a Defender Medal. And 1000 levels in... something special awaits.

Just remember: Every tog in the Endless Invasion has a story behind it. Every tog there has its hopes and its dreams, and past. Will you be able to be their nightmare?

PS: Please remember to take breaks when playing! Your progress will be saved between sessions, and being healthy is important to being a good gamer!

Surfboard Design Contest

Ready to paddle out and make some radical art?

Summer is coming, and that means two things - one, SURF'S UP! And two, Surfboard weapons return to Artix Entertainment's games! This year, we're holding an all-game surfboard design. We'll take your ideas and turn them into works of KILLER (wave) art, dude! So hang onto your helms as you hang ten, and read on for the contest guidelines!

All our regularly-updated games are participating in the contest. That means your entry has a chance to appear in AQWorlds, AQ3D, AdventureQuest, or DragonFable.

Each of the game teams will choose their own Grand Prize Winners. Those Grand Prize winners will be created and added into the respective games over the next few months.

Prize Details

  1. Grand Prize winner(s) will be chosen by the game teams. GP Winners will get their design in game and2000 Artix Points!

  2. Winners Circle entries will get 1000 Artix Points!

  3. If you go Above and Beyond, we shall award you accordingly ;)

Contest Timeframe

The contest will range from today, May 4th until 10 AM EST on Friday, May 11th. The winners will be announced the following week on the AE Contests Twitter account.

Contest Rules

The rules and guidelines are pretty radical, but MUST be followed accordingly for your edible entry to be eligible. I repeat, in boldface and in red font, ‘cuz a lot of people miss this: YOU must follow EACH rule if you want your entry to be considered eligible.   

The easiest way to make sure your hard work gets judged: Read all of the rules before submitting your entry! 

  • Your entry must be made by you.
    Do not copy someone else’s hard work. That my friend is called cheating, and you will be disqualified for it.
  • Include your game character name on the piece of artwork itself.
    This way we really know it’s made by you! And NO, photoshopping your name onto your picture DOES NOT COUNT, and you will be disqualified if you do. (Also, no photoshopping your character page.)
  • If you want your entry to be considered for a specific game, write that game's URL on the image below your game name.
    If you do not include a specific game, your entry will be considered for all games.
  • Your entry MUST be created in some sort of Artix Entertainment theme. 
    Create anything you want from AQW, EpicDuel, BladeHaven, DragonFable, MechQuest, AdventureQuest, and WarpForce!  If we cannot tell what it is from our games, you will not be qualified. 
  • The screenshot of your entry should be of the Highest Quality, and as large as possible. 
    The more clear the picture, the better it will look, upping your chance at the Grand Prize! 
  • Be posted to the AE_Contests Twitter account
    Uploading your photo to your Facebook and sending us a link does not allow us to see the photos. Also, if you upload your photo to your LOCKED image-sharing account, we cannot see it either. So make sure you send the image itself to the Twitter account linked above.
  • One entry per person 
    One entry = one surfboard design... so make sure you are happy with your submission!

Engine Version 14.2.36

Hey there, Heroes!

Some Monday changes to stats! Yay!

Engine Version 14.2.36


  • DEX now reduces glancing blow damage by (DEX/10)%, additive.
    • DEX no longer increases Bonus to Hit.
  • DEX now increases DoT damage by DEX/5 damage, instead of a multiplicative percentage.
    • The goal of this change is to make it more useful for most DoTs, while not as overwhelming for super high damage DoTs. If you train DEX, and your class has any DoT at all, this should make those skills worth using. Damage is subject to change, as classes and builds that can apply a lot of DoTs at once get extremely buffed by this.
  • INT now increases Bonus to Hit by INT/10.
    • INT no longer reduces glancing blow damage.
    • This change is intended to lower the ubiquity of INT being entirely non-situational.
  • LUK now increases crit by LUK/10, previously LUK/20.
    • Buffing up LUK's utility a bit by giving it more crit rate.
    • An example- if you have 200 LUK, you will now gain an additional 20 crit. that is, 10% crit chance.

Remember, stat retraining only costs a total of 1001 gold until this Friday!


14.2.37 UPDATE:

  • Dex was a biiit overtuned.
    • Dex DoT damage bonus halved to DEX/10. Still a substantial damage bonus and worth using, but not totally insane.
    • Glancing blow damage reduction halved. 250 DEX results in a 12.5% glancing blow.

Engine Version 12.2.35

Hey there, heroes!

Quick weekend hotfixes! Yay!

Engine Version 14.2.35


  • STR now properly applies its damage buff.
  • Enemies with 0 DEX no longer do NaN damage on DoT effects.
  • Fried Zard Legs now are properly removed when consumed.
  • Zard Cuisine now applies effects on the turn used rather than the turn after use.


  • Soulweaver and Master Soulweaver "Purge" no longer removes the "Stuffed" debuff.
  • Paladin's Greater Heal no longer removes the "Stuffed" debuff.
  • END has been moved down to be above WIS on the character info screen.

The Crossroads

Hey there, Heroes!

The Crossroads north of Falconreach have now opened in Book 3! Head east out of Falconreach, and then head directly north to explore the area and see how it's changed. The path used to lead to Dragesvard, Lymcrest, and Willowshire... But how have things changed over the years?

Have Lymcrest and Willowshire recovered? What is the Rose up to? Find out in this week's travel exploration release!

Also, Teka has recovered a new book titled "A Collection of Lorian songs, rhymes and other things"! Check it out in the Libraseum.

Also also this week:

Character stats have been revisited!



  • Glancing blows reduce damage to 25%, insteaed of 20%.


  • No longer increases base damage.
  • No longer increases critical hit damage.
  • Increases melee/pierce/magic defenses instead of block/parry/dodge.


  • Increases Immobility resistance by 20% of STR.
  • Increases stat bonus damage by (STR/5)%, multiplicative.
    • For example, at 250 STR, the stat bonus damage will be 50% greater.


  • Increases Bonus by 20% of DEX.
  • Increases DoT damage (not including heals) by (DEX/10)%, multiplicative.


  • Increases Critical Hit damage by (INT/10)%, additive.
    • This is the same as the old LUK bonus!
  • Reduces glancing blow damage by (INT/10)%, additive.
    • For example, at 250 INT, glancing blows will do 0 damage!

The goal of these changes is to add much more variety to stat builds, while also reducing and refining the effectiveness of LUK. LUK is now about all or nothing- buffing direct hit chance (bypassing defenses), buffing MPM (bypassing damage), and buffing crit rate (bypasing BPD), and not so much about damage. This brings it more in line with CHA as a secondary stat.

STR, DEX, and INT recieved major effects to further cement them as primary stats. There are tons of interesting combinations to play with and explore! I hoped to make some old classes more viable with this, as well as adding more variety to builds.

The First Guardian

Hey there, heroes!

The cold mountain wind is howling- the next chapter of True Mortal's saga has arrived. Sceolan has directed you to your next goal. Will you be able to find the answers you seek? Or will you be left wanting? Head over to Stoneheart Fall from the Book1/2 travel map and continue this ancient tale.


     It's been a long time in coming, but here it is. Unfortunately, life often interferes with the best laid plans, and this is the case here. Yet, at long last, the final guardian is revealed, and he brings you answers that you have been looking for.

    When you have only ONE task, that you must perform without end, it's easy to get distracted. Imagine, if you will, being assigned to just watch one thing. Now… with that in mind, imagine having to do the same thing for thousands of years without rest. Yep… distractions happen. Sometimes the consequences are negligible, but on occasion, the results are cataclysmic. Such is the case here.

    I've really enjoyed writing this series, and I love the places this story has taken me. I've traveled through time and space in the process of writing this series. I've traveled to ancient Ireland, where a fusion of Celtic tradition and Viking tradition melded. I've read about Heroes and Gods, about the Tuatha De Danan and the Fomori. There's a great big world out there with breathtaking traditions and stories.

Thank you all for sharing this journey with me. We aren't done yet, either. There's more work to be done, and time is short. Let's get going.

In other news, the war and the Lucky Day book will be leaving come next Friday's release. The war will go static and be available from the Lucky Day book as well for the future. So do not worry- nothing will be going rare.
